Total new theory, i think

Okay, this my first post on the board, I'm basically a lurker. This is a little disjointed but I think worthwhile, I don't think it is much more far fetched than many other theories.

If I remember right Hurley's friend from the institute and the guy in Australia heard the numbers while doing military work listening to radio transmissions. I don't remember if there were any timelines given on that but I'm thinking the radio tower was transmitting the numbers as a beacon for some (possibly government) entity. Rousseau mentions she changed the signal approximately 16 years ago to her distress signal. Rousseau and team were also drawn to the island by the numbers or maybe they were searching for the island with some knowledge of the numbers. . ...

Now why would some entity have a radio transmission as a beacon. To find/keep track of where they had put something of great importance, like down in a very deep hole that is covered by an unopenable hatch and protected by some type of living/mechanical device. Nothing new yet but, maybe the Black rock was transporting this important item to a hiding place. The Black Rock was definitely an older ship, circa 1400's 1800's. At some point, probably world war II a government (US Assumed) found the "cargo" of the black rock and because of the importance of this cargo had to hide it, secure it to a level beyond anything else at least to the knowledge of that time.. The black rock certainly had the tools, and crew (Slaves/prisoners) to do some digging to find or hide something. Rousseau's crew also had similar equipment as well as military style weapons and they were a science team on an expedition.

So what type of cargo could be so important to go the extent of seclusion and hiding that took place. And if this is the case why were no troops ever deployed to protect it. I'm thinking no troops because this thing must be hidden from humanity forever. Whoever decided to hide it must have known that anyone with knowledge of the power of this thing could/would be corrupted, or certain peoples would do anything to get their hands on it. It would have the power to take over the world, or end it. What would be the one thing of antiquity that would be so powerful and important that Ôwise' people would do anything to hide it. The Ark of the Covenant. The relatively small box that contains the 10 commandments, the rod of AARON, and a jar of manna. The most holy thing outside of Jesus Christ to ever set face on earth.

Ok, so now you either think I'm a nut or you are intrigued. So, why were our survivors drawn to the island. Lets take a look at something: We have the following main characters that seem to be the focus of the show. Jack, Locke, Kate, Sayid, Sawyer, Hurley, Michael/Walt, Jin/Sun, Boone/Shannon, Claire/Aaron, Charlie, Rousseau.

That's twelve, like the twelve tribes of Israel. And you have Aaron who is named that for no particular reason per Claire. Aaron,as has been mentioned on other posts was the first high priest of Israel. Moses brother. His rod is in the Ark. He was the leader of the Israelites after Moses died. And, the only people ever allowed to enter the most Holy of Holies, where the Ark was kept in the temples of Israel was the high priest, all of Aaron's lineage. Aaron is first introduced in the bible in Exodus 4, the first of our numbers. I haven't been able to link any other numbers though.

So why would our twelve be drawn, and what makes me think the twelve tribes of Israel. Maybe our survivors are a symbolic 12 tribes, I don't know. But maybe the Ark is drawing people now because it wants someone to find it. If there is one "supernatural" thing that could safely bring down an airplane, that could use numbers to draw people, etc, it would be the creator of the entire universe.

The Others, evil people trying to get to the Ark? They want Walt for his supernatural powers to help get to it? The whispers, the souls of those on the Black Rock that died due to exposure to the Ark? Who knows, but I'm tired of typing so feel free to blast this away, I know there are as many holes in this theory as any other.

This is my first time posting as well, but your theory is intriguing.

Your theory would serve to back up the idea that Locke's faith in the island is his religon and the various posts that others have made supporting that fact.

That wouldn't be too far fetched, centered in "this world," "this reality," as JJ Abrams was quoted as saying.
I wouldn't be surprised.

Remember Sun stating that every name has a meaning to Claire...Aaron is highly symbolic. I wouldn't be surprised if this is one of the first story lines the writers dive into next season...

Thanks for letting me post!

When You mentioned the 12 tribes I came to think of something else which has a religious connection. I have allways thought that Jack in someways has the role of Jesus, he is allways leading the people, he is the uber-good guy, he blames him self for things that happen and so on. Maybe I read this somewhere so I dont know if anybody has thought of this to, i dont remember. Secondly, I am not so good on religiouns but where there not 12 disciples or what they are called that fallowed Jesus? Is this all a coincidence, especially considering other Biblical connections (like the name exodus).

His reference to the 12 tribes was a reference to the 12 tribes of Israel, I believe.

Well, you named 16 people and not 12 - of course one of those 16 is dead, so that makes 15. So, I think you are really stretching the logic here with the 12 tribes. Plus, why would the writers rip off 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' ? - although, it does have 'Lost' in the title - (ha-ha). Besides, the writers are too busy ripping off 'Prey' right now - IMO.

Welcome to the boards soonerjas! I think you've done a great job of tying in some earlier theories to the latest developments, and gone that extra step of grounding a bible-based theory. Yes it was done by Spielberg/Lucas, but there is no doubt anymore, I believe, that the bible is a foundational text for the show. So I say speculate away on grails of all types, be they literal or figurative!

I like the idea of grouping family members to fit the number scheme. Plus thanks for more info on Aaron. I think that even in baby form the character Aaron is rather vital. As for finding things, whether of religious importance or not, probably the hatch leads to something. That's why it was buried. I also mentioned to my Columbus compatriots that the whole hatch structure resembled a temple of antiquity. The black rock though hidden was still too accessible. That crazy monster probably caused it to end up where it did in an effort to protect the secrets that you mention. But the hatch was buried. Well, now we have Dante, Orpheus, Jesus between the crucifixion and the resurrection, in symbolic terms. Welcome our new four to the Underworld. If I were they, I'd take Vincent. Lots of creatures in the Underworld. I'd take music too.

At this point NO theories can be discounted. You bring up a lot of great points/ideas. However, the slave ship set on a mission to bury something, although intriguing is not accurate IMO.

See the thing/force/power on the island is drawing people to it. That is why there has been at least two shipwrecks and two plane crashes. This buried power is warping the space-time continuum around the island -- causing a sort of Bermuda Triangle affect.

But believe me, I'm not discounting the ark of the covenant, the holy grail, some sort of temporal wormhole or anything else . . . yet.
