Full fathom five thy father lies;
Of his bones are coral made;
Those are pearls that were his eyes:
Nothing of him that doth fade
But doth suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange.

WWII, Danielle, and Pinnerman's Theory

Lurch mentioned that he thought the hatch might be a door to a bunker, put on the island by the Japanese during WWII. That got me thinking about PINNERMAN'S THEORY In it he says that the objects in Danielle's hut look to old to work out to the 16 year time line. Well there we go...Danielle's stuff is at the bottom of the ocean, so she hunts around the island, finds this bunker, and uses the stuff she found. Any thoughts?

I was thinking WWII also - a week ago I was searching the net for submarine images and ships from WWII - I couldn't find a match to the hatch. Last night we got to see a new angle on the hatch, it's not parallel to the base.

In lieu of the Tsunami, I'm thinking how damage occurred as much as 10 miles deep... so it is possible something washed that far up. It's also possilbe that the island is growing -- what is the jungle now was the shore 60 years ago.

Golfergirl: A bunker from WWII, what an intriguing idea. And you're right that it fits right in with Pinnerman's observations.

Re: WWII, Danielle, and Pinnerman's Theory

So, what happened on the island during WWII? Why is the French woman still there? And if it was used back then, how come no ships or planes have come near?

The whole WWII thing makes sense, and maybe it can explain why things are the way they are...

So many questions, not enough answers...

Re: WWII, Danielle, and Pinnerman's Theory

OK here is what I figure: the islands in the Pacific were hot beds during WWII, this one is no exception. Maybe there was a lot more stuff on the island. In Pinnerman's theory he says that most of the stuff in Danielle's hut looked more than 16 years old. Maybe she found the compund and took some of the stuff.

Not a bunker; but perhaps similar in plan. See THE ROM CYCLE - A Unified Theory of Lost for more.

Re: WWII, Danielle, and Pinnerman's Theory

If there is a WWII bunker, it would fit with the (approximate) 20 year cycle....

2004: Our castaways are stranded on the island.1988: Danielle's team is marooned.c. 1964: Adam and Eve are buried.c. 1944: The bunker was built.

There are a lot of "ifs" involved, and Danielle's team seem to be an anomaly, but it's an interesting pattern. Does the island get hungry every 20 years or so?

"Hungry"?

What?

Please explain...

Re: WWII, Danielle, and Pinnerman's Theory

I also noticed the age of the stuff in the bunker and came to the same sort of conclusion. Something to think about would be that just because the loop went on for 16 years, that doesn't mean that is how long she has been on the island. Maybe she was on the island for some time before the need for the distress call.

Cassis: I like your list. Maybe it's a generational thing: the island or others are looking for a representative group each generational cycle.

"2004: Our castaways are stranded on the island. 1988: Danielle's team is marooned. c. 1964: Adam and Eve are buried. c. 1944: The bunker was built."

What is "Adam and Eve are buried"?

Re: WWII, Danielle, and Pinnerman's Theory

In "Moth", Jack and Kate stumble on two bodies, that look like they've decomposed on the island for 16 years. Jack names them Adam and Eve.

Oh, thanks. I missed that episode.

Re: WWII, Danielle, and Pinnerman's Theory

Interesting theory...Except one problem.

The Island, even if the location is in our "Real World", is /was far outside the Theater of Operations during the Pacific War of WW2. There would really be no reason to build a bunker there, barring possible Japanese invasion of New Zealand or Chile....

Re: WWII, Danielle, and Pinnerman's Theory

Have you ever heard of the testing of nuclear weapons in the French Polynesian islands? They have been going on for over thirty years. Specifically the islands of Moruroa and Fangataufa. They have been doing atmospheric and underground detonations since 1976 on those islands. I decided to check up on it after rewatching Solitary and remembered Sayid saying something about scientists and why they needed weapons. Anyway, I thought maybe that would explain the compass readings. There are still effects of radiation in those places.

Think Bikini island circa 1946. the Marshall Islands are in the path of our plane. Remember who told you so.

Re: WWII, Danielle, and Pinnerman's Theory

Well the radiation idea might explain why the weird plane crash and the "sickness", that might also explain the total lack of air traffic above the island.

Re: WWII, Danielle, and Pinnerman's Theory

Yeah, well I think that the island has had a fair number of visitors over the years. My gut feeling is that that portal leads to an underground structure like a bunker. It would take a fair amount of machinery and manpower to construct a bunker. Plus, we have A&E, Danielle, and the "others". For an uncharted island, its a busy place
