Purgatory:

Definitely Dead

A Native American Indian told me they are all already dead

I know that this theory has already been proposed by skinner, which I wished that I had been the first, but I just found this site and would love to elaborate. I was told by my friends wife, who has a Native American Indian friend, who says that the so called survivors all died in the initial crash and their spirits are trapped on the island because they are not ready to cross over to the afterlife. The reason I think this fits is because of all the flashbacks which could represent their lives flashing before their eyes. Jack saw his dead father because he himself is dead also. Since when has a plane gone down lately, loaded with people that they did not find right away even if they were all dead, it's 2005 for christ sake. The people who hear the voices probably did not die in the crash and are in a coma or unconscious and can hear the rescuers or doctors. And finally I think the metal door represents Heavens gates, if you believe in that sort of thing. I guess we will find out if Locke crosses over now that he has seen the light. Anyways I am new to this, thank you for reading this theory and I love the show. Peace.

Re: A Native American told me they are all really dead

So, does that mean then that the ones who have already died went to hell, since they did not go through the hatch?

Re: A Native American told me they are all really dead

Good point, maybe the hatch is only a representation created for the viewers.

This is a purgatory type theory and the writers have said they are not in purgatory. However I also agree with your theory - its like the 6th Sense and that explains why they aren't being rescued.

Well, maybe the writers meant a Catholic type purgatory. Maybe the Native American type purgatory is somehow different and the writers were trying to lead us away from that thought.

If they are all dead, then how do you explain the guy who got sucked into the engine, Scott/Steve Redshirt, and Ethan? It makes no sense. When Bruce Willis was dead in 6th Sense, he couldn't be harmed.
