He that dies pays all debts.
The Tempest. Act iii. Sc. 2
All of the characters on the Island are actually already dead. Why are they on this Island? These people have troubled pasts that they need to work through before they can go to heaven. As the season progress, the characters go through their past lives as a way of clearing there consciousness and moving into the next life. As people deal with their past and are at peace they die (in the eyes of their island counterparts) but really they are going into the next life.
When the plan crashed few of the people who survived the crash were injured. ItŐs been over a month and she still hasnŐt had her baby, she was nine months pregnant at the time of the crash. Hurley in over a month hasnŐt lost any weight. The Island has magical powers? No, people see themselves as they thought they appeared. Lock, who was crippled four years ago and now after the crash he can walk, why? Because thatŐs how he saw himself.
Why was Jack father coffin empty, because he is also on the Island dealing with his issues before moving on?
These monsters that appear to be in the Jungle are really people's fears.
The French lady said that this island killed all of her ship mates, yes she lost them because to her it seemed as they were dying, but really they became at peace with themselves and moved on.

Claire was barely into her 8th month at the time of the crash.
On larger people, the weight loss is not noticeable at first.
